schedule a consultation - we will not perform ipl/bbl without a prior consult.
please thoroughly read through the contraindications list.

do not have tan skin (this includes fake tanners), please ensure your tan has faded completely.
use an spf every day to protect your skin from sun exposure.
discontinue retinols or any exfoliating treatments 1 week prior to treatment.
do not wax 1 week prior to treatment.
plan for 10 days of temporary worsening of pigmentation (this will flake off as skin heals).
if you have a history of cold sores, an anti-viral may be called in for you ahead of time.
A photofacial begins with numbing cream being applied for 30 minutes followed by the treatment which can typically be completed in about 30 - 45 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

at liv aesthetics we offer both ipl (intense pulsed light) and bbl (broad band light), these systems deliver a noninvasive light treatment that is customized for various skin types, tones, and skin conditions. at your consultation we will go over which modality will be best for you.

your treatment will be performed in our comfortable, state-of-the-art laser treatment room, we will clean and dry the skin before protecting your eyes with special eye shields. The treatment is carried out with a handheld device that emits pulses of energy as it passes over the skin. it is often described as feeling like quick "rubber band snaps" and is greatly dulled with the application of numbing cream.

after treatment, skin may feel hot (like a sunburn), this typically lasts for a couple of hours before calming. cold compresses may be applied for comfort.

the process

what to expect

skin MAY BE MILDLY SWOLLEN and pink FOR THE FIRST 24-48 HRS POST TREATMENT.

any brown spots that have been treated will begin to darken and turn into what is often described as looking like "coffee grounds". this will slough off on its own over the next 7-10 days.

any vascularity that has been treated may appear blotchy or mildly bruised for several days post treatment. this is due to the collapse of the blood vessels we are attempting to get rid of and will clear up on its own.

depending on the severity of your concerns, multiple treatments may be required. on average we recommend at least 2 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

aftercare

an aftercare ointment will be applied after treatment.

lightly blot away any lymph drainage for the next 24 hours (Lymph drainage will turn into a scab and peel off with the pigment, this is how you lose the pigment, so it is good to blot away any droplets that your skin may excrete as it occurs.)

keep the area free of dirt and bacteria (especially for the first 24 hours)

do not wash or get the treatment area wet for 24 hours

after 24 hours, you may wash the area with a mild cleanser such as cetaphil. it is important to keep the area clean but be very gentle.

after cleansing, using a q-tip or clean fingers, spread a thin layer of aftercare ointment in the morning and in the evening.

Do not use any skincare or makeup products on the treated area for 10 - 12 days.

Expect to lose some color during next month, this will be addressed during your touch up treatment (after 10 days you can use makeup to cover empty spots if necessary)

Do not rub or pick any scabs,

try not to sleep on your face

Color will look dark and intense for the first week, this is normal. It takes about one week to restore the skin and grow a new layer over the color

Avoid sun and tanning, direct sun might cause burning or darkening of the pigmented area

wear hats and/or large sunglasses to protect your brows from the sun as they are healing

avoid heavy sweating for the next two days, sweat and oil might cause blurring and losing more pigment
Avoid tanning beds, saunas, and hot tubs, and direct water pressure.

Chlorine and salt will fade your tattoo, so avoid swimming for 7-10 days.

Do not use any harsh creams around the treated area that contain acids or retinol for 14 days.

please wait 2 weeks before waxing or electrolysis
Schedule your follow up visit 4-6 weeks from first treatment to fill in sparse spots if needed

You should not have MRI during the healing process (about 2 months)

You won’t be able to give blood for some period of time after the procedure

You will receive an aftercare guide after treatment

avoid excessive sweating for the first 24 hours.
avoid sun exposure for the first 24 hours.
do not apply makeup for the first 24 hours.
skin may be cleansed as needed with a gentle cleanser such as the alastin gentle foaming cleanser or skinceuticals soothing cleanser.

after 24 hours, wear an spf and cover up as much as possible, especially for the first 1o days. we have several fantastic tinted spf options that are designed to cover red.

we recommend purchasing one of our medical-grade moisturizers to ensure your skin stays hydrated prior to treatment.

any brown spots that have been treated will begin to darken and turn into what is often described as looking like "coffee grounds". this will slough off on its own.

do not scratch, pick or peel at your coffee grounds.

discontinue all retinols or exfoliating products for 1 week.
please wait until skin is completely healed before waxing.
most clients find photofacials to be tolerable with topical numbing cream. however, we also offer the following pain management options:

numbing cream: a topical cream that consists of lidocaine, tetracaine and benzocaine. designed to dull sensation. lasts 1-2 hours after removal. included with all laser procedures.

cold rollers: Ice rollers help with lymphatic drainage and can reduce heat and inflammation of the skin. cold rollers are included with all laser procedures upon request.

PRONOX nitrous oxide: also known as "laughing gas". nitrous oxide is self-administered by holding a tube to your mouth to inhale the gas. The effects are typically felt within just a few breaths. while nitrous will not eliminate pain entirely, it will significantly dull the sensation of pain and  anxiety. nitrous oxide is available for $125.

to ensure the PRONOX MACHINE is available, please let us know ahead of time if you would like nitrous oxide.
